Choose around the visitor’s question
A landing page is useful when one audience arrives with one main intent and needs one primary action. A campaign for a specific event or service package often fits this shape. A company site is more appropriate when visitors must compare services, inspect evidence, understand the organisation or return for support.
The deciding factor is information architecture, not how modern the screen looks. A long landing page with six unrelated audiences can be harder to navigate than a small site with clear service pages.
A practical choice table
| Situation | Starting structure | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| One campaign, one offer, one enquiry | Focused landing page | Keeps the journey consistent with the campaign |
| Several services with different buyers | Service overview plus individual pages | Each buyer can find relevant scope and evidence |
| Catalogue with comparison and configuration | Catalogue or web application | Product state cannot be explained by scrolling alone |
| Returning customers manage records | Client portal alongside the public site | Authentication and access rules need separate design |
Test the proposed structure before design
Write down five questions a first-time visitor will ask. For a studio these might concern capability, relevant work, process, commercial fit and contact. Put each answer on the proposed sitemap. If unrelated answers compete for attention on one screen, split the journey.
For every indexable page define a distinct purpose. A service detail should explain its audience, deliverables, limitations, workflow and relevant case. Copying the same paragraph to multiple URLs creates maintenance work without adding a decision aid.
Plan expansion without building everything now
A focused launch can still use a reusable header, footer, design system and service data. This makes it possible to add useful pages later without promising a complete future platform in the first release.
Measure the actual completion of the intended action, including receipt of the enquiry. Traffic or button clicks alone do not prove that the structure works. Review the M48 service catalogue and project examples against your audiences before choosing a page count.
A practical question
Can a landing page grow into a company website?
Yes, if its URL structure, reusable components and content ownership allow expansion. Keep the original campaign purpose clear and add new pages when they answer distinct visitor questions.
